MCMS FFA Teams Receive Top Honors

Our MCMS FFA Livestock Evaluation Team recently won the Area 2 contest two weeks ago. This past Saturday at the FFA State Contest, students judged 8 classes of livestock including (hogs, goats, sheep and cattle), evaluated a group of sheep and determined which ones a producer should keep, took a test over breeds and external anatomy, and finally gave two sets of oral reasons over two of the classes they judged from memory. In a set of reasons students must validate their reasoning for placing a class of livestock a particular way based on the characteristics of each animal. Saturday was particularly challenging because students were in very cold and windy weather.

MCMS FFA placed first out of the top 12 teams from the entire state in the junior division! Audrey Brown was the high individual for the contest. This is a huge accomplishment for our students- they competed against some high school freshmen. Livestock Evaluation is by far one of the most competitive FFA contests. Please join me in congratulating our State Champions.
