Georgia Lottery Surpasses $30 Billion for Education; More Than $53.9 Million Invested in Madison County Students

The Georgia Lottery Corporation has reached a historic milestone, raising more than $30 billion for education in Georgia since its inception in 1993. The achievement highlights decades of investment in Georgia students through the HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Pre-K programs, including a significant impact right here in Madison County.

According to the Georgia Lottery Corporation, 6,790 Madison County students have received a combined $38,567,110 through the HOPE Scholarship program since its inception. Additionally, 3,905 Madison County children have benefited from Georgia's Pre-K program, representing an investment of $15,401,998. Together, these programs have brought a total of $53,969,108 in lottery-funded educational opportunities to Madison County families.

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced the milestone alongside First Lady Marty Kemp, University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead, Georgia Institute of Technology President Angel Cabrera, Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin, and Georgia Lottery Board Chairman John Irby during a ceremonial presentation recognizing the achievement.

"On behalf of generations of Georgians, Marty and I are proud to congratulate the Georgia Lottery on this historic milestone and celebrate its impact on so many students, some of them twice as former Pre-K students and HOPE recipients," said Governor Kemp. "Since 1993, Georgia students from Pre-K to college have been set up for success through the programs funded by the lottery, expanding access to high-quality education in our state."

Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin emphasized the broad impact of lottery-funded educational programs across the state.

"Every dollar raised contributes to Georgia's HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K Programs with a wide-reaching impact for students, families, and communities," Corbin said. "Reaching the $30 billion mark is a testament to the continued support from our players, retailers, vendor partners, and stakeholders throughout the state."

The milestone was achieved following a recent quarterly transfer of $414.8 million to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education account, bringing the total raised for education to $30.2 billion.

Since 1993, more than 2.3 million students statewide have received HOPE Scholarships, while more than 2.2 million four-year-olds have participated in Georgia's voluntary Pre-K program. HOPE programs are currently available at 79 public and private colleges and universities across Georgia.

The continued success of these programs demonstrates the important role educational investments play in preparing students for future careers, strengthening Georgia's workforce, and supporting economic development efforts in communities like Madison County.
