City of Comer Receives the T.C.B. Taking Care of Business Award
The Madison County Chamber of Commerce passionately strives to develop a pro-business climate that serves as the catalyst for economic and community development that complements our agricultural roots in Madison County, GA.
The Chamber's Government Affairs Committee presents the T.C.B. "Taking Care of Business" Award to government agencies or business support organizations that are taking care of local businesses through business friendly protocols and practices. The committee received nominations from the community and membership. Chamber membership ultimately voted for the City of Comer as the first recipient of this quarterly award for the following reasons:
- Collaboration with the Department of Community Affair's Rural Zone Designation.
- Adopting a Blight Tax Ordinance to incentivize the restoration of blighted properties.
- Consistently working with the business community to adopt business-friendly protocols and practices ranging from business licensing to permitting.
- Investing in recent multi-million dollar sewer improvements and by continually applying for state and federal grants to expand the infrastructure needed to foster business growth.
- Facilitating tourism events such as Taste of Madison County, the Comer Christmas Parade and most recently Fourth of July Concert and Car Show.
- Ongoing downtown beautification and shop local efforts including but not limited to:
- Branding and signage downtown;
- Streetscape improvements;
- Hosting a UGA State Botanical Garden Pollinator Garden;
- Supporting landscape efforts of Honey Pond Garden Club.
