Danielsville Business Awarded $10k Grant for Bringing STEM Education into the Kitchen
Inquisicook Culinary Science, an innovator in curriculum development, has been awarded a $10,000 grant from VELA Education Fund for their hybrid approach to science and cooking.
"Our secret ingredient really is science," said Inquisicook founder Angela Smith. "Once you get that, you can apply it to any cuisine, any dietary restrictions, and most importantly, any available foods. We think the ability to make a meal out of what's on sale, what's in season, or what's in the fridge is an important life skill—not a specialty reserved for a select few. Our goal is to put Culinary Science within reach for all students."
Inquisicook 1 was released in 2021, followed by Inquisicook 2 in 2024. Guided by a passion for excellence in education, their small team continues to conduct research, create curricula, develop and test recipes, and—as time allows—host in-person Culinary Science workshops. Their next major project, Inquisicook Junior, is slated for release in 2026.
"It's a tremendous honor to be chosen for this award, and the funding will provide a real boost to our ongoing efforts," Smith said. "VELA is the nation's leading network of education founders, so being a part of that ecosystem provides benefits that extend well beyond the bank account."
VELA Education Fund is an independent, national nonprofit that invests in entrepreneurs who are transforming the future of education from the ground up. To date, VELA has disbursed more than 2,000 grants to innovators who are stretching the canvas on where, when, and how learning takes place.
Inquisicook combines food science and culinary arts into hands-on courses that put delicious food on the family table.
